Nurses have always played and integral part in The Society for Endocrinology and their presence at SfE BES is no exception. Lisa Shepherd, Chair of the Nurse Committee, is here to tell us what she is looking forward at SfE BES 2015 and to welcome all our nurses to the exciting programme of events.
Whether you are new to endocrinology or have been in the specialty for many years, the SfE BES 2015 is an exciting and valuable conference for nurses to advance their knowledge and practice in endocrinology.
Following feedback, this year sees the launch of the ‘nurses lounge’ where nurses can network and collaborate. It is also an opportunity for newer nurses who may be attending for the first time to meet more experienced colleagues.
The first nurse session on Tuesday 3rd November offers a programme on the ‘Holistic approach of the MEN patient’, including genetic and psychological aspects of this disorder. Nurse led clinics are an integral part of the endocrine specialist nurse role and our second nurse session focuses on the ‘Why, how and other considerations of nurse led clinics’. Concentrating on the development of a clinic, running a service and the medico legal considerations of these clinics.
Not only do we have these stimulating sessions, but also attended nurse posters where there is opportunity to view and discuss endocrinology and its application in practice. Also, the ‘Meet the expert’ and ‘how to’ sessions are always popular with the nursing community, along with the debate. Don’t forget that nurses can attend the endocrine network meetings.
I look forward to seeing you all next week, in hopefully sunny Edinburgh.
